THE HIVE only holds on to what it needs to run. What we keep is locked down properly, none of it is ever sold, and everything that belongs to you is yours to see, change or download whenever you like.
Here is what your account is made of, laid out plainly.
Your member name, which everyone can see, plus your email and date of birth, which are stored encrypted.
Your portrait, About Me, thought of the day, guestbook and level.
Your forum and hub posts, guestbook entries, screenshots and files. Chat and pages work differently, and you can read how further down.
The lobbies and rooms you join, your matches, and your cards and decks.
Your HIVE balance, your Hive Coins and your receipts.
What you say in the moment stays in the moment. Here is exactly how each kind of conversation works.
A lobby shows its most recent chat, the last 200 lines, so anyone walking in can catch up on what’s going on. It lives only in the server’s memory, never in our database or our logs, and it’s wiped whenever the server restarts.
Room chat lasts exactly as long as the room does. Once the room closes, the conversation goes with it.
Pages stay between you and the person you’re chatting with. They go straight to the people you send them to, and the server keeps no copy.
If someone is offline, your page can wait as a telegram until they sign in and read it, and then it’s deleted. If you’d rather it didn’t wait, switch off Save pages as telegrams in Pager › Preference and you’ll simply be told they’re offline.
Voice travels live to the people you’re talking with and is never recorded.
Forum posts, hub posts and guestbook entries stay up until they’re deleted, because that’s what they’re there for. Files you page to someone sit in their file space until they remove them. And anything you send in a HELP! request or a complaint is kept so our staff can follow up on it.
We keep a one way scramble of your password that can’t be turned back into the real thing, not even by us.
Your email, date of birth, two factor settings, payment settings and purchase records are locked with 256 bit AES encryption before they’re saved. The key is kept apart from the data, so a stolen copy of our database is useless.
Our backups get exactly the same protection as everything else.
When you choose Remember me, your sign in is kept in Windows’ own encrypted storage on your PC, never as a readable password.
Anyone who wants an extra layer can turn on two factor sign in from Member › Edit My Account.
Purchases go through PayPal, so your card and bank details stay with PayPal.
Not to advertisers, not to anyone. The only time anything is shared is with the services that help us run THE HIVE, and then only what they need, or when the law requires it.
Your data isn’t locked away somewhere you can’t reach it. The file behind your profile is yours to download right inside THE HIVE, any time, without having to ask anyone.
Open Pager › Files and download your profile data file, with all of your settings and saved setups. Every screenshot and file you’ve stored is right there too, ready to save, delete or share with a link, and you can see exactly how much of your file space you’re using.
You don’t have to send a request or wait on anyone to get your data. It’s right there in THE HIVE for you to download whenever you want it.
If you ever want your account deleted, email legal@hivenet.net and we’ll take care of it.
Change anything on your profile, whenever you like.
Change your password and turn on two factor sign in.
Your balance and history, gift cards and subscriptions.
THE HIVE is for members 13 and older. Anyone who isn’t yet an adult where they live needs permission from a parent or guardian.
