In the making since 2008.
The idea behind THE HIVE is not something we came up with yesterday. We first laid out the vision publicly back in 2008.
Even then, the goal was clear: build a place where people could gather, talk, create private rooms, use voice and cam, manage their own spaces, keep in touch through a pager system, and launch directly into games and dedicated servers with as little friction as possible.
If you look at that original idea and compare it to THE HIVE today, the foundation is remarkably similar.
The problem was not the idea. The technology simply was not ready for what we wanted to build. Development costs were higher, the tools were more limited, and building the experience we had in mind was far beyond what we could realistically do at the time.
So we did not force it out just to say we released something. We kept working.
Over the years, THE HIVE went through multiple rewrites, different technologies, different approaches, and a lot of trial and error. The vision stayed the same, but we had to wait until the tools finally existed to build it properly.
Now they do.
What you see today is the idea we started with all those years ago, finally becoming what we always believed it could be.
Take a trip down memory lane.
